Description
WILDFLOWER JACKPOT by Lynn Bauer - One of my favorite photos from an incredible day of wildflower shooting in Lake Elsinore, CA. I definitely felt like we had hit the jackpot when stumbling upon this scene!
Orange California poppies are the dominant flower in this image, and scattered throughout are purple Canterbury bells, and various other small wildflowers. The colors and the smell were just wonderful, as spring brought it's glorious bounty to the hills of Southern California!
If you happen upon this photo, please check out my extensive line of wildflower photos from Texas, California, and a few other places. I have galleries for the states, as well as a collective Wildflower Gallery.
This image has placed in several FAA contests, including more than one first place win...the most recent being tied for 1st place in the "Poppy Love" contest in Feb 2015, and 1st place win in the contest - Field of Flowers North America on Apr.9 2015, and 1st place win in the "Landscapes With Flowers" contest on Dec. 18, 2015.
Lake Elsinore, originally Laguna Grande, is the largest natural freshwater lake in Southern California and is situated at the lowest point within the 750-square-mile San Jacinto Watershed at the end of the San Jacinto River.
Lake Elsinore is bordered by the Elsinore Mountains to the west, which are a part of the larger Santa Ana Mountain Range, and receive a few inches of snowfall a few days each year. Included in the Santa Ana Mountains is the Cleveland National Forest and El Cariso. Lake Elsinore is north-west of Murrieta and the northern portion is part of the Temescal Canyon.
