Description
A gorgeous purple passion flower shows off it's unique and beautiful array of interesting petals around it's bold center. What a joy to stumble
upon this beauty in a Texas garden!
******************************************
The name "passion flower" came from
Roman Catholic priests during the late
1500's. They chose this name, because
they determined that this was a good
representation of the "Passion" of the
suffering and death of Jesus Christ.
They felt that the five petals and the five
sepals represented the ten apostles who
stayed true to Jesus throughout the Passion.
The squiggly rays above the petals represented
the crown of thorns that was placed on Jesus'
head during his crucifixion.

Passion flowers are not only beautiful,
but some varieties of their fruit are used
for medicinal purposes.
