This adorable little hummingbird usually feeds on tiny little tubular flowers. In this case, he is sizing up the food source in front of him...a giant tropical hibiscus in my garden. The hummingbird is probably 2-3 inches in size, and the flower is 8 or 9 inches. Although the hummingbirds may prefer small flowers, they rarely pass up these beautiful flowers, and I have fun trying to catch them inside! The only problem is that many times they go behind the flower and drink directly from it's base, making it a little hard to get the picture!!

I have spent most of my life living in Southern California where I have developed an appreciation for all the beauty provided by nature.
