HEAVENLY COLORS AT ROCK CREEK by Lynn Bauer - Fall colors blaze around Rock Creek Lake in the High Sierra mountains of California. The aspen trees turn quickly during the autumn months, leaving behind their green shades of summer. Most of the trees turn to shimmering shades of yellow and gold. But, at times, the circumstances line up right to see more of the oranges and reds...as was the case here. This image was taken at the peak of fall color, as a storm came in and blew many of these leaves off the branches just one day after we were there. This is a scene that literally took my breath away as we rounded the corner and it opened up before us! For me, this is a little view into what heaven must be like!! Gorgeous granite mountains, blue skies with wonderful white clouds, a deep blue alpine lake surrounded by a glorious riot of intense colors...wow...what a treat!!!
This area is located off of Highway 395 between the towns of Bishop and Mammoth Lakes. It is part of the Inyo National Forest.
