Description
BOAT DOCK SUNRISE AT LAKE GEORGE by Lynn Bauer - Bright yellow boats rock gently in the deep blue waters of Lake George during a beautiful morning, as sunshine gently spills over the lake. Clouds are gathering over the mountains, and will produce some much needed rain later in the day. But, for now, the world is very peaceful and calm, as fishermen line the shore, hoping for their daily limit of fresh trout.
Lake George is one of the five main lakes in the Mammoth Lakes Basin in the town of Mammoth Lakes, California. Lake George is the highest in elevation of the five lakes. It is well known both as a fishing lake, and as a base camp for trails that go out into the wilderness to other lesser traveled lakes.
This area is part of the Inyo National Forest and the John Muir Wilderness areas. It sits on the eastern slopes of the High Sierra Nevada mountain range, just across from Yosemite National Park, which sits in the western slopes of the same mountains. The granite mountains of the high Sierra were carved out by glaciers, leaving many deep pools for these beautiful lakes to form.
